Dental anxiety can cause you to avoid important trips to the dentist, compromising both your oral health and the appearance of your smile.
Sedation dentistry allows you to receive the treatment you need while helping you stay calm and relaxed in the dentist's chair.

You are not alone if you experience anxiety about seeing a dentist...
Types of Sedation Dentistry
Nitrous Oxide
As a form of light sedation, nitrous oxide is a gas that leaves patients in a state of relaxation. Administered by placing a mask over your nose, nitrous oxide sedation is easily controlled and wears off quickly. As a result, it is the only form of sedation where you may drive yourself home following your appointment. Because it is so safe and easy to control, nitrous oxide is often used for children who suffer from dental anxiety. Commonly known as "laughing gas," it might even cause a giggle or two.
Oral Sedation
When moderate sedation is required, prescription medication taken before a procedure provides patients an added layer of relaxation with oral conscious sedation. A sedative medication taken before arriving at your dental appointment helps reduce anxiety especially in patients who have fear of the dentist. Modern dental sedatives not only help with a sense of calm but also can reduce your sense of pain. However, you should have someone standing by to drive you home from your appointment as you may be feeling a bit groggy after the procedure.
IV Sedation
The sedative medications we administer via an IV effectively reduce any pain or anxiety while receiving dental care at Advance Oral Surgery of Tampa. IV sedation is often a helpful option for patients with a strong gag reflex, extreme dental sensitivity, and widespread oral health issues. Although it does not put you to sleep, this form of "twilight" sedation dentistry leaves you relaxed during your appointment and without any memory of it afterward. As a result, IV sedation can be enormously beneficial to patients with extreme anxiety who have major dental health issues by allowing them to drastically improve their dental health.

5-Star Google Reviews for Our Outstanding Team "I would not hesitate to refer neighbors or friends to this office."
Went in today to have 2 wisdom teeth out. Everyone was so sweet and kind. Was given stuff to take before the surgery that relaxed me. I didn't feel the IV go in and I don't remember going under. I don't remember anything aside from getting home. No pain several hours after surgery. Given stuff to take for pain.
View On GoogleMy daughter had her wisdom teeth removed on Friday and only had minimal pain. The entire process was very easy and informative. From scheduling the appt in 5 days, to verifying insurance to consult and procedure on same day, every interaction with the staff was positive. Sheena, Dr. Edward's assistant was very caring and explained the procedure in great detail in layman's terms. They have a multitude of sedation options which was appreciated. Dr. Edwards took extra time with my daughter to explain the entire procedure and put her at ease. She woke up from IV sedation and told me on the way home that she didn't think they did the procedure as she couldn't feel a thing. I would not hesitate to refer neighbors or friends to this office.
